Greenhouse Gases
Organisation-level quantification and reporting
ISO 14064-1:2018 specifies principles and requirements for designing, developing, managing and reporting an organisation-level greenhouse gas inventory. It covers organisational and reporting boundaries, the selection of a base year, quantification methods, information quality and GHG reporting. This page addresses Part 1 of the ISO 14064 family, not project-level accounting or independent verification.
Key Requirements
- 1Set organisational boundaries using an explained consolidation approach
- 2Define reporting boundaries and significant direct and indirect categories
- 3Document activity data, emission factors, methods and assumptions
- 4Establish and recalculate a base year when relevant changes are significant
- 5Assess uncertainty, manage data quality and retain reproducible records
- 6Report boundaries, exclusions, methods, results and changes transparently
Key Benefits
- A structured organisation-level GHG inventory
- Clearer reporting boundaries and category decisions
- Better data quality and reproducibility
- Transparent treatment of base-year changes
- A sound basis for separate validation or verification
